Thoughts on Boston University as a semi-target?

Seems like BU is the latest school ascending to semi-target status, sort of on the bubble.

They've had decent placement on the street over the last couple years from Questrom. Really strong alumni network too, seems like guys who will go to bat for their school. Anyone have thoughts on this school?

You can call it a mega target, non target, super target. Just don’t be salty when you can’t get any interviews besides BofA PWM Boston.

in all seriousness it’s gonna be a serious uphill climb. I have friends at BU that struggled with recruiting. Not only with getting people on the phone, but also landing any decent interviews.

Fair play. I've seen a few alumni doing big things, seems like the school is investing heavily into its data science program (new building).

Definitely only scraping the surface of semi-target if anything though.

I’m gonna have to give you some honest truth. No one outside in the finance world thinks about schools and whether they are a semi target or not. At banks you are either a core school(which means you have a dedicated recruiting team) or non-core. I assume you’re a student and you probably know very few banks come to campus to recruit.  (A lot of my good friends go to BU and they complain all the time).

if I were you, instead of making wso posts on whether BU is a target or not, I suggest you focus on the things you can control. Study hard and get a good GPA, network and get relevant internships, and study the technicals hard. the effort you put in these tasks vs. convincing others BU isn’t as trash as people make it to be won’t do anything but waste your time.

cheers

I go to BU. Def on the rise but would not say it’s a semi target. Hopefully that changes in a few years. Questrom is getting more selective every year (13% acceptance in 2022 now 8% in 2023)
