Thoughts on MSF last round applications

Hey everyone,

So I'm graduating in December from a semi target school in the Midwest with a degree in Finance. I will be taking the GMAT in February, and finishing applications to schools such as Vanderbilt, Villanova, UT, Michigan State, Texas A&M, and Duke's MMS, all which are March deadlines and the final round for most of them. I still have other schools like Ohio State which I would apply to that have a later deadline, but are still the final round. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts about final round apps are?

School: Semi Target school in Midwest Major: Finance Age: 23 when starting program GPA: 3.3 Cumulative, 3.3 Major (both upward trends) GMAT: 650-690 on practice exams so far. ECs: None, except for playing a sport (cricket) on a national level for the past 6-7 years. Work experience: Volunteered about 2000 hours at a non profit over the last 2-3 years, along with about 300 hours of volunteering at other places/events. Can build on lots of leadership roles from sports and volunteering in essays. Programs of interest: Vandy, Ohio State, Duke, UT, Villanova,Texas A&M, Miami, Loyola, Purdue, and Michigan State.

If your GMAT is in the higher range you should be fine. Final rounds can go either way. If a school has a strong applicant year and most of the admitted students commit, then the final round is harder for marginal students as the adcoms are looking to polish the class profile. If the opposite happens, then you can get in with a weaker profile because they need to fill seats (you still have to be reasonably qualified).

I observe that you left WUSTL and MIT off the list, but Purdue and Michigan State aren't really b-school targets at all. THAT's weird. Are you just trying to buy time? Your semi-target is probably the most helpful unless you fly off to a Target. I doubt it'll be as helpful if you connect alumni after u went to XYZ for a MSF

I just figured that schools like MIT and WUSTL would be out of reach? As my gpa isn't the greatest and I don't have any work experience other than all of the volunteering I've done.

@TNA How does it work getting when it comes to internship if you get into Vandy 3rd round? Isnt a bit part of the program that they help you get a good internship the summer before?

Sounds a bit weird. Why would they do that before you pay $1
