Toughest job interviews while in b-school?
For current students or alums of MBA programs, what were your toughest job interviews while you were recruiting in school? I did a ton of interviews across finance & tech and these were probably my hardest.
-Wellington
-Meta: corp dev
-Apple: corp dev
-Tesla: corporate finance
-Uber: corp dev
-AirBnB: strategic finance
Can you share come color on what made those interviews especially difficult? Particularly interested in Fidelity and Wellington but I think any detail you can share would be helpful!
For Fidelity & Wellington, I had to present 2 long stock pitches. The level of detail that they went into, the questions asked, were very thoughtful and rigorous. The interviewers were unbelievably sharp and I felt I was out of my depth. Obviously did not get offers, but that's on me for not being more prepared.
Was it a stock they probably already covered? So they were familiar with it?
My toughest interviews were:
GSAM (NYC)
Amazon Lab126 (Sunnyvale, CA)
UBS M&A (Zürich)
What was the GSAM role? Was it in fundamental equities? Was Amazon Lab 126 for product or corp dev? I interviewed with Amazon corp dev and didn't think it was too difficult.
GSAM wasn't a fit and they had a lot of candidates on the short list
AMZ was a product leadership position and I was good, but simply not good enough
Bridgewater’s super day is very intense and involved a group role play problem solving exercise.
I interviewed with Bridgewater when I was in college. It's just a weird freaking process. We had group debates and then some other lame shit. Like none of it was related to finance. They just want really smart people who think a certain way.
This makes sense, finance and technicals can be taught. Smarts can't.
Interested in FAANG+ corp dev. Can you share what made those so tough?
PIMCO has consistently been one of the most competitive processes across all b-schools including HBS, Sloan since Gross days
