UNC Kenan v. UVA CAS
Currently a rising junior transferring for my junior year, going abroad and taking the spring off so will be a first sem junior when I transfer. Coming from top LAC with 3.6 GPA, looking at UNC where I can possibly get into Kenan and UVA where I would have to do CAS. If I wanted to recruit FT and beyond(PE, MBA, etc.), which would be the better option and are there other schools in this tier that would be better?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
UNC Kenan-Flagler vs. UVA College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) for PE, MBA, etc.

Other Schools in the Same Tier:
Conclusion:
If your primary goal is to recruit for PE, MBA, and other finance roles, UNC Kenan-Flagler would likely be the better option due to its direct access to a top business school, strong recruitment opportunities, and focused curriculum. However, if you have a strong preference for UVA, consider applying to the McIntire School of Commerce to enhance your business education and recruitment prospects.

UVA & it’s not even close. Definitely the top school in that “tier” for anything related to high finance
Thank you so much. Is this still true even if I'm not in Mcintire?
Yes. McIntire, while definitely an advantage, isn’t even all that important: recruiting is mostly done by the time you can even make the distinction between mcinitire vs CAS (jr year). Even CAS is still WAY better than UNC tho. UVA & Berkley are the only two public schools that are truly respected in elite circles and anyone who tells you otherwise isn’t being entirely truthful. UVA is the obvious pick here, and this is coming from a NESCAC guy.
In this case I would argue that UNC KFBS is the better choice. While UVA may be viewed as a better school in general (up for debate though), UNC is the strongest school in the South when it comes to finance and it has a very involved alumni base to network with. UVA is more of a consulting school, in my opinion.
Makes sense, I was trying to figure out why McIntire’s major is commerce instead of accounting and/or finance
Heinous take...UVA is so well represented in many geographies across banking, PE, and hedge funds (tons of Tiger Cubs started by UVA people). Very familiar with both schools and how they recruit/place and UVA absolutely smokes UNC. The only reason you should take UNC is if you can pay NC in-state tuition and are deadset on being in Charlotte for banking and/or PE, because you'll see all the ex-Bowles Hollowell people run that city and a majority of them went to UNC and just look out for their own.
