Transferring to another business school
I currently go to Siena College in Albany, NY. I was recently accepted by Bentley and Pace universities as a transfer for the spring semester. I want to get into IB. I was wondering which school would offer me the best opportunities for IB.
Pace is only located 5 blocks away from Wall Street. I think it would lead to better investment banking jobs. However, Bentley has a much better ranking than Pace, but it is located in Boston.
Which school would provide me with better opportunities for IB? Which one would you choose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
None of the above.
wait a semester and transfer to NYU
GPA, SATs, credits taken, if you're greater than a >3.5 you could apply to a number of top B-Schools, consider Georgetown, BU, BC, Cornell and the like. Fordham is in NYC and much better than Pace.
Um.. no necessarily DOC, it is actually extremely hard to transfer schools. You need like above a 3.75-8 to get into schools like BC, Cornell and GT. Hell you might even need a 4.0. IMO, you will not get into a very good bschool with a 3.5 but anyways, it depends on what you want for the years youre in school as well dude. I have friends going to both schools, some love it in boston and are staying there. You dont really have to worry about the distance, going to pace is not gonna network yourself into IB merely because its close to the meatpacking district.. Bentley is a great bschool however, it doesnt have as many offers and opportunities as it competes with alot of good schools in that area for IB.
Bentley. I know kids from there who have placed all across the bulge bracket. I have met one kid from Pace who was a networking legend and made his way onto the Street. Proximity doesn't mean much if firms aren't coming onto your campus to recruit. Stern wouldn't have half the rep it does if every bank wasn't there monthly Sep-Mar.
Not to be an ass, but it sounds like you may be doing this on someone else's dime.
Fact is, Bentley and Pace are expensive schools for what they actually give you. If you're going to network into Wall Street, go to CUNY Baruch and pay the $4k a year in tuition. Tons of successful people started out at Baruch. Save your money and go crazy partying in NYC rather than being broke from paying $30k in tuition.
borough of manhattan community college is pretty close to wall street. the guy who lives across from goldman and goes to school at u phoenix online is EVEN CLOSER TO WALL STREET
Only know a few people who went to Bentley/go to Bentley and none of them are in IB. Some are at F500s, some are in corporate at smaller businesses. But, I'd still say Bentley over pace if I had to choose. As FSC said, Baruch may be a decent option as well but I think most of the finance alums are/were in S&T and got their jobs in the 80s
Do I know you?
What are your stats? I would say wait out spring semester and send apps to some schools that have better recruitment.
If you want to go private in NYC shoot for NYU followed by Fordham which is pretty easy to transfer to. If money is an issue Baruch is a great option as well.. This is weird I didn't think anyone else at Siena wanted to break in.
Seriously what are your stats? I don't know if any of those choices are worth it. If you have good stats, aim higher next semester.
Building your resume up with school-year internships could be a big benefit to you at both schools. Bentley is 10 miles outside of Boston, so it's possible to do them there as well. I'd pick the school that lets you transfer more credits and take a lighter course load than the other one so you could have the flexibility.
I'm just a student, but it seems like Bentley has the better name. All else being equal, I'd probably go there. But you should definitely post your stats on here. There's probably a decent chance that you'll be able to get admitted to some more well-known schools.
