Transferring to Ivey HBA
Hey guys I'm a high school student going to University of Toronto (St.George) - Life Science program. If it turns out I don't like the sciences I'm thinking of transferring to Richard Ivey HBA my second year.
I just have a couple of questions to ask: What is a competitive average for transferring? They ask for leadership ECs, what exactly can I do to show that I have good leadership qualities? (I'm thinking of joining a sport team and/or a club). Does the fact that I'm in a Life science program affect me in anyway? (Do Business/finance/accouting majors get an advantage?) Do I have to show that I have an interest in finance/business.etc (because of my program) by joining Finance Clubs? Or do any ECs qualify?
It would be really cool if there are any successful Ivey HBA transfers that can give me some tips/guidelines.

I'm a high school student going into UTSG Life Sci program. But I'm saying if I don't like the sciences I'd be thinking of switching into Ivey HBA during the end of my second year. Meaning I'd be attending Richard Ivey during the third year.

I wanted to PM you bluejay92 but apparently I did not have the necessary "bananapoints" to do so. I was just wondering if you were to apply to ivey as a second or third year student, does the admissions committee review the grades of your most recently completed year only, or they review all your grades throughout university. in other words, would I have to send in my transcript for say 2012/2013 only or would I have to send in my full University transcript?
Also, when I get the necessary bananapoints you can expect a few pm's from me as well

I have a hunch to transfer into Ivey HBA because I recently networked with a lot of professionals and students in the Finance industry, and I became very interested in investment banking, especially working in the US. Currently, I am studying at a non-target, and the lack of credentials to transfer would not be an issue. Specifically, most people with whom I talked mentioned that Ivey would give me the best chance at landing an IB job (or finance, for that matter). Some even went as far as saying US firms only recruit at Ivey now (not sure if this is true).
Do you think it is worth the investment to transfer?
My original plan is to attend law school in the US, but I feel it is only worthwhile if I attend a Top 10 school. I guess this would be my back-up, in case I don't attain the required LSAT marks? I mean, I know Ivey would be a great investment if I didn't pursue anything after HBA... I just want to make sure I'd be transferring for the right reasons?

only transfer if you can be in the top 10% academically and can land a banking job (experience in finance/ib in first 2 years of university helps quite a bit from what I've seen), what school are you from?

I have heard things about Ivey expanding their class size and taking lots of transfers this year, is this going to continue for the upcoming transfer applicants? How many more years of expansion are planned, and how will this affect job prospects coming out of Ivey?
I understand the expansion will continue for the next two or three years until they move into their new building (I think up to six or eight sections). The concept for attracting transfer applicants will continue though as the plan is to source about half of the incoming HBA students from outside of Western (most of the other half will be AEO). Given Ivey will be sourcing the best candidates from the other schools, it is likely that the quality of the class will remain the same and therefore will continue to take the majority of the Canadian investment banking jobs. Ivey will continue to be a wall street target as well.

Richard Ivey BSchool offers HBA program that students can transfer to after 2 years or later. I'm really interested in this because I'm not at target at the moment. If you transfer after 2 years the cost is over $40k so I'm interested in doing just 1 year (4th year). Is there anybody on this forum that have a degree from Ivey ? What are general opinions of this school ? Is it worth transfering in my case if I'm interested in IB in particular. Thank you.
Not worth transferring to for your 4th year. You do realize the biggest factor in where you end up FT is where you go during your summer after 3rd year right?
I don't think that's possible... I've never heard of anyone joining Ivey for only the HBA2 (4th year). It's a 2 year program, and you start as a HBA1.
It is a very strong school for IB - to answer your other question.
What non-target school do you go to, and what program and year are you in?
York University, Econ/Fin 2nd year.
Why don't you save the money, pull up your pants, and start networking. You do live in Toronto...
You have to do HBA 1 and HBA 2. It's considered a professional program and you must do the entire thing.
York U sucks. Assuming you're not Schulich you should transfer.
Is this an equally good choice for Trading as well ? I do realize that I will have to do both HBA years thank you for pointing that out.
