Transferring undergrad business schools, how much does rank matter?
I currently go to a t20 and high ranking school for business and hate it. I've applied for transfer to other schools similar in ranking but do fear feeling the same way. I have also applied to a few schools considered to be "less prestigious" or more mid tier that I think I would be happier at. I don't really care about the concept of prestige as I feel happiness is more important but have been told by some it would be a bad move to transfer down and can see the issues that could arise. (These schools are all in the top 50 or so from US News and in poets and quants business school rankings)
I am a Finance major and my current school has a top program whereas one of the schools I'm most interested in has a more mediocre program yet I feel like I would be happier there.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am interested in potentially banking but also might want to get into real estate post grad and potentially get an MBA. I know going to the lower ranked school would also save me around 20,000 a year in scholarships.
Edit: thought I should mention I'm not failing out or anything my gpa is a 3.81.
Although the concept of prestige matters in terms of assuming someone’s intelligence, it doesn’t matter to an extent once your foot is in the door. Furthermore, since you got into a t20 program and succeeded grade-wise, nobody should ever think you wouldn’t be able to handle a more “prestigious” high ranking school. ALWAYS follow your happiness over the notion of “prestige”, and this is coming from someone who is a freshman at a t20. Smart move for not listening to some of the prestige clowns on this site!
