UCL: MSc in Technology Management or MSc in Global Management of Nat Resources?
Lads,
I got an offer from both programs.
My target is to end in Equity Research, or S&T, or a general buyside position.
I am struggling between choosing the right MSc for me. Both are from engineering school, both have good performance and decent modules (although neither have finance modules, only risk)
I do like both programs. The first one seems to have more ppl that already work, but is cheaper The second one seems to have more ppl ending in banking, is 4k expensive
Thoughts? Cheers
UCL is a target for Bachelors, and for financial focused masters. Its much harder to get into finance without a finance masters I am afraid.
I'm already working in finance, i did study finance during my BSc.. Now just want an MSc that allows me to break into London's finance.. Anyway, an MSc from UCL will be surely respected more than MSc in finance from a tier 4 Uni
Which industry would you prefer to cover when you go for jobs? Which course do you think you will enjoy more? Placement is likely to be the same from both courses so if you don't have answers to the previous questions then i would go for Tech as it's cheaper.
Exactly this is the point. Want to end in Tech IB/ER/S&T? Want to end in commodities trading or AM or ER? It's pretty hard to issue a sentence without more data bro
In London, personal experience has told me the University you go to matters more than the degree. Not that the degree doesn't matter - just to a lesser extent.
I don't think it would matter too much which of the two you choose. If banking is definitely your choice, and you're relatively sure about the "more ppl ending in banking" for the second, then I'd go for that choice.
However, I do agree with the earlier comment that UCL is a target at the undergrad level, not as much at the postgrad level unfortunately.

I'm aware of the fact that UCL is a target at the undegrad, but is of course better than an unknown MSF coming from other institutions outside London. Anyway, the fact that makes me doubtful about Tech Management is that the MSc is populated with more working people, although the tech program is pretty flexible with few optional modules that you can take. The latter is really focused on the subject.. What a mess! :O
