UIUC (IBA) vs Wisconsin (IBC) for IB Recruiting

A friend of mind is trying to decide between UIUC and Wisconsin for IB and asked me for advice. I know both of these schools have IB programs that take 30-35 kids but don’t know much about their placement and getting into them so can anyone help out. He’s out of state for both.

  1. How does UIUC IBA and Wisconsin IBC place into BB and EB?
  2. Competitiveness - Acceptance rate to get in?
  3. How is IB placement for kids not in these programs?

Have friends in both. No hard #s, but based on anecdotal evidence, it seems like UIUC IBA places better than Wisconsin. The important thing to understand before committing to either of these colleges is a) the programs are rather competitive and will require preparation to get into and b) they mostly place into Chicago MM / BB branches from what I've seen. If you don't get into the banking programs, expect a difficult time because alumni typically use their pull on program members.

Have friends in both programs which seem to be solid. One important distinction is that Illinois’ is run by a former MD whereas Wisconsin’s is all student run. From an experience perspective, you’ll learn the same thing in both. As far as recruiting, both have solid connections in pretty much all MM Chicago. Illinois has better connections at BB/EB Chicago compared to Wisco for sure. If you’re thinking about NYC, it’s pretty much a toss up although it is worth noting that Illinois has sent people to pretty much every EB in NYC and has strong alumni at Moelis and pwp.
