UK Top MSc Programme(s) 26/27?
Did as best I could at a non-target RG, but doubt it'll be enough in the upcoming applications season. In the event of having to revert to a Master's I'm wondering where I should be shooting. My academics are strong (grades, key modules, references, etc.), so I'd basically be paying my way to a uni with better networking/access/prospects.
Anyway. Obvious unis to choose from are LSE/Ox/Cam. Not going to kid myself about trying quant so I'm parking Imperial. The real question is which course at any of the above? Pure Economics? Econ+Fin?
Didn't get an internship, still wouldn't expect to get a BB, but MM IB / Strat. Consulting / similar I'm up for.
Lse mfin accounting and finance and econ and management
Oxford financial economics if you wanna do econ consulting maybe mphil economic
Cambridge mphil finance finance and econ and mphil economic are all good but mphil finance seems very quantitative
To clarify on LSE (haven't memorised all the courses yet), you mean: Finance | Accounting and Finance | Econ and Management? Really not looking to do Econ Consulting. Also hoping for 1y course broadly speaking, sanity- and budget-wise.
Finance, accounting and finance two separate degrees 50k for finance and around 40k for accounting and finance economics and management is good for consulting and decent for investment banking if you want an economics course which isn’t extremely academically rigorous it’s probably the best Lse offers. Also what course are you on and what uni if you can’t say here dm.
Del
Definitely LBS MFA
Ty. General reputation across London or particularly for IB?
It second best after Oxford in the uk for pre experience masters courses
Oxford/LBS/LSE/Cambridge/Imperial in that order for the UK. Also, Imperial has non-quanty postgraduate programs. Its flagship MFin and MFA have a typical finance curriculum similar to the others.
Appreciate the breakdown. I don’t really mind course content, I trust it’ll be strong at any of these unis, main thing for me is essentially: “Which of these universities will give me the best job prospects/recruiting opportunities thus ROI, taking as given that (A) their courses will be great and (B) I am smart enough to complete them and score highly.”
Oxford and Cambridge course can be difficult. Lbs is very practical so would be easy.Lse and imperial are inbetween
Agree anything outside those 5 is a major downgrade when it come to employability
The only one that places well is the oxford mfe
Lbs mfa and lse mfin are cash grabs and do not place well - especially without prior experience
Not really like if you go to any master of finance program without prior experience your at a huge disadvantage compared to someone who has no matter if it Oxford lse or lbs doesn’t make the program a cash grabs the exception is if your a diversity candidate.
For 26/27, I think LSE, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and Warwick will still be among the strongest UK MSc choices depending on your target role. I’d focus on career outcomes and internships too I was checking MiM Essay recently and they had some useful study-abroad guidance around program selection.
