UMich LSA for IB

Hey everyone, I've been accepted into UMichigan LSA for econ and am awaiting my results for Ross. I am heavily considering attending no matter the decision. I'm just wondering if this is a stupid move considering I'll be paying OOS tuition. The NPC said I will most likely be paying 35k/yr and I'm not sure if this is a good price for an LSA econ degree. Will I be competitive enough to get a job at LSA? What business frats should I rush and what clubs should I join? I am still awaiting multiple RD decisions, but Michigan is one of my top choices.

Thanks.

Congrats and Go Blue! Yes it’s possible to get into IB from LSA, I know a few kids who have done it but it’s definitely not a dime a dozen like in Ross. You won’t have access to OCR but I think if you join the right clubs like the finance club, investment clubs, as well as business frats like AKPsi who have a lot of non ross kids, you’ll have a shot. I can’t remember where I heard this but if you’re majoring in something that’s a bit different than business i.e. not Econ, you can use it as a more plausible answer to the why not ross question you might face from interviewers.

What types of jobs were some of the other people who didn't make it into IB get if you know? Also keeping in mind the price do you think its worth it -Assuming this is my best offer at the end of RD decisions.

A lot of kids in Econ take corporate finance positions or like random big4 gigs in Chicago. Some go into real estate. Most kids in Econ aren’t really going for IB tho tbf. If you do the right things you should be able to land an ib gig, however i would definitely not have the bb or bust mentality, as I see a lot of the non ross (and even ross kids too) students going to mm firm

Know many people who attended Michigan (Ross, LSA, and Engineering). Fantastic school on par with about Cornell in my experience, coming from the NYC area. As long as your GPA is strong, you join relevant clubs, you have internship experience, network snd interview well, you cannot go wrong by choosing Michigan.
