Undergrad: Northwestern vs UVA vs Michigan vs UNC
Hi,
This is my first post and I made it because I am having a really hard time deciding which college to attend next year. My career interests include finance and consulting. Although I am going for the education, I also really care about the social environment of the school. I really enjoy watching sports but its not a deal breaker if the school isn't good at sports. So far I have gotten into 4 schools and I am waiting on Brown later this week. First, I got into UNC. I got assured admission into the business program and I got into the honors program. I also got into UVA, Michigan, and Northwestern, all LSA. I applied to Ross BBA at Michigan and I haven't heard back but it is unlikely that I got in considering that I did not hear back during the first 2 decision release dates. I am concerned about having to apply to the B program at UVA after my sophomore year because I would be screwed if I didn't get in. I also know literally nothing about the opportunities, atmosphere, campus, social scene etc... at Northwestern because I haven't visited yet or talked to anyone about it. In terms of price, I'm out of state for all but UNC is 52k a year while Michigan and Virginia was 63 k a year. Northwestern is a whopping 78k a year. I can afford to go to any of the schools but Northwestern would exceed my college savings. I don't know how much of a target schools these places are both regionally and in the northeast. I loved Michigan and UVA's campuses, but UNC blew me away with their opportunities for Assured Admissions business students and their honors program. Northwestern has no undergrad business and its no guarantee at UVA. For my circumstances, which school would put me in the best position for post-college jobs while also providing a great college experience.
Thanks!
I would go to UNC. Ross and UVA place better but given you have a guarantee to UNC's bschool but not the others, it's the better option. Keeping in mind you may switch majors/career UNC is good overall and will be fun. If you get into Ross direct then that is also a great if not better choice.
UNC because you will be the cream of the crop & it's the cheapest. UMich and UVA
FYI at UVA it doesn't matter if you're in the b-school. All recruiting happens before your 3rd year now. McIntire doesn't get any exclusive recruiting nowadays. You're by no means "screwed" if you don't get into the comm school. All you need to do to get in is maintain a 3.5+ GPA and take all the prereqs.
