Undergradaute School Choices.. help!

I am a graduating senior in high school this year... For next year, I am currently enrolled in the Colgate University class of 2016... BUT

2 days ago, i got off the wait list at Claremont McKenna

Which college would better position me for a job in IB/PE/S&T??

They are both good schools; probably at the same level. If you want to work on Wall Street, Colgate enjoys from geographical advantages. If you want to work on the West Coast, CMC would be a good place to choose.

It's tough to figure this out at 18, but if you have a sense of whether you like the west coast lifestyle or east coast lifestyle, that is one way to break this tie. The next best way to break this tie is where you live and whether you have friends going to either school.

West of the Mississippi/Missouri, choose CMC; East of the Mississippi/Missouri, choose Colgate. At the end of the day, family is what really counts, and a five hour transcontinental flight to see them is not fun at all.

This is a bit out of the box, but I knew a couple of students from CMC that did the general course year long placement at LSE and then transferred over to complete their degree. I think the success rate in terms of being accepted for transfer tends to be around 50% depending on the course. The ability to transfer to a top target in the Europe is a useful back up, or even if you weren't up for that a year in London can also be pretty good fun and give you extra scope for job and internship applications.

I know its not really what you were asking, but hopefully its useful...

doesn't say if front office or back office. report can be misleading

Agreed. I have seen a lot of schools do that.

OP, if you have a strong preference regarding location (NY vs CA), pick the school on that coast. Otherwise, I would lean towards CMC. Placement is fairly similar...CMC is bordering on the Inland Empire, but I would still take SoCal anyday.

What are you even doing here? While it's good you're cognizant of schools for IBD before entering the game, it seems entirely too premature. Open yourself to a wide range of possibilities, outside of finance, even business.

AND definitely do not pick the school based on how great of a "target" it is or whatever. Prestige is one thing, but four years from now it might be a different story. But, you could always go on linkedin and see the finance alumni from both schools as a gauge. But make a holistic decision and look at the financial package. Looks like at CMC won't offer you any money since they've probs given their scholarships/fin aid away. I say go with your gut.
