University options for eventual MBB recruitment

Hi - hope everyone is well.

Had a quick question regarding MBB (and other top consulting firms) recruiting...

Would a first at LSE in a behavioral science degree look better than a 3.8+ GPA at McGill university (for pure economics) in Canada?

I know LSE is seen as more of a "target" school - but does the course have any bearing on this ? And is there really a large difference between LSE and McGill (for MBB recruitment purposes)

Thanks !!

When was this from? If it were UCL/Warwick I would agree, but LSE (and Imperial) MBB recruitment has significantly increased in the last couple of years - especially at McKinsey - with generally far less focus on Oxbridge. A decent resume from any of Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, or LSE will get past screening at MBB now. That is not the case for UCL or Warwick.

I didn't make it but the person who did made it earlier this year,  Linkedin sweep of current people working there, tbh I'm more familiar w the IB metrics than MBB but linked it anyway

EDIT: a certain proportion of imperial/LSE could have increased from prev years idk. If you could link some stats/evidence of your claim I'd appreciate it.

both are targets, just for different regions. if you want to work in canada, then go to mcgill. if you want to work in the UK or potentially the EU (assuming you know an EU language) then go to LSE. MBB in Canada is slightly smaller than London but mbb recruitment is more diffuse among targets vs the heavy prioritization of Oxbridge in the UK.

in terms of gpa, a first and a 3.8+ seem to be roughly equivalent, meaning youd have a good shot at landing an interview with some decent work experience and light networking. major doesn't matter for consulting

Hi - thanks for your comment (and thank you everyone else as well) !

I had another quick question - if I were to go to McGill, and then do a masters (not MBA) at a top European business school such as LBS, INSEAD, etc.. (should my GPA and other components allow), would this reopen me to the possibility of working for MBB firms (or the like) in the European market ? Or do these firms primarily look for undergrad students ?
