US MBA to IB as an international, straight, white male. Dead-end?
Hey guys,
hate to beat around the bush, so I will need your most blunt and honest replies.
I've been accepted to a top-20 MBA program in the US as a straight, white European male. Goal is to break into IB, with no prior IB work experience.
The school is no top-feeder to IB roles but it usually manages to send some students every year. Problem is, after contacting all international current students/alumni who were successful, it became clear early on that they all checked the same diversity criteria (PoC, women, etc.).
So the question is: am I heading towards a dead-end as an international, non-diversity applicant? My feeling is that I'll be stuck in some sort of diversity twilight zone, where I won't be able to (naturally) compete with domestic students and be at a disadvantage when compared to the rest of the internationals.

I'm also a European in the US (undergrad though) and the majority of the Europeans I networked with that did their MBA were white males. Your goal should be to primarily network with the Europeans at different banks (idk where you're from but there are a bunch of French, British and Turkish people that lateral to the US offices). I don't want to sound like a dick but if you already feel hopeless because you're apart of the majority on wall street, you're gonna have a tough time recruiting lol. Get the confidence up and network with other Europeans lmao
