UVA Mcintire Full Ride V.S CAS Econ At A Hunnid Bands A Year

Money isn’t really an issue for my family but I was wondering what the consensus is between Mcintire for free v.s CAS Econ? I’m from New York and a lot of my connects are back home. Sure CAS Econ isn’t stern, but I have a prior IB internship and I got friends that are in NYU already so club placement isn’t a dire concern. The crux of my dilemma here revolves around my hesitance to going down south as I’m a city boi and I don’t know how I’d mesh with the UVA crowd. I know placement for the two schools slides a teeny bit towards UVA so that factor plays a role as well. Transferring into both as a sophomore. Any advice? Am I dumb? Also, an additional factor to consider is that a lot of my homegirls back home told me UVA girls are chopped and they’ll pmo to their NYU friends. What do you guys make of this?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's the breakdown:

  1. Placement and Alumni Network: UVA McIntire has a strong reputation for IB placement, with a loyal and active alumni base. The McIntire School of Commerce is highly regarded, and its ICE curriculum is unique, offering a solid foundation for finance roles. While CAS Econ at NYU isn't Stern, your existing connections and prior IB internship could mitigate the gap in placement opportunities. However, UVA's placement edge might still be worth considering if you're looking for broader opportunities.

  2. Cost Consideration: While money isn't an issue for your family, a full ride at UVA McIntire is a significant advantage. It allows you to graduate debt-free, which could provide more flexibility in your career choices post-graduation.

  3. Cultural Fit: Your hesitation about UVA's social scene is valid. If you're a "city boi" and feel more at home in NYC, the adjustment to UVA's environment might be challenging. However, UVA has a strong sense of school spirit and community, which some find appealing. It ultimately depends on how much weight you place on your comfort and social fit versus career opportunities.

  4. Social Dynamics: While the comment about UVA girls being "chopped" is subjective and not a serious factor, it does highlight your concern about fitting in socially. If this is a significant concern, it might be worth visiting UVA to get a feel for the campus culture before making a decision.

Recommendation:

If your primary goal is maximizing career opportunities in IB, UVA McIntire's full ride is hard to pass up. The program's reputation, alumni network, and cost advantage make it a compelling choice. However, if you strongly value staying in NYC and feel that your existing connections and prior experience will suffice for placement, CAS Econ at NYU could be a better fit for your lifestyle and comfort.

Ultimately, weigh the importance of cultural fit and personal happiness against the career and financial benefits of each option. Both paths can lead to success, so choose the one that aligns best with your priorities.

Huh? 300k is not a small amount of money. 300k at a 8% interest rate, by the time you retire that's 7.3M dollars. Like, fuck the placements, a full ride is absolutely insanely good. I know "money isn't an issue" but like, that's a LOT of money. And UVA is great. I know plenty of people from there, it's nice to get out into a different environment. It'll be 3 years, then you're back. If you stay at NYU, you just stay in the same environment. You go city to city and stay in NYC for years, potentially your whole life. Aren't you at least a little interested in what's actually out there?

Also, NYU girls ain't allat. They're the most spoiled people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. There's pretty girls at every school, there's ugly girls at every school. If you're good looking and have any semblance of game + confidence to actually approach and ask out, you'll find a girl from UVA.

Do UVA - why is this even a discussion. Also Charlottesville punches above its weight class and I know people who’ve moved there from NYC and like it. It’s literally the best small town in America, it’s not like you’re not moving to Mississippi or something.  UVA girls are pretty good and if you really miss NYC, it’s a very short flight / train ride away.

Deadline to commit to schools closed already. Unless you magically got off the waitlist, which probably hasn't moved right now, stop making things up.
