Which second major should I choose if I want to go into IB after college?
Hey guys! I'm an incoming freshman at NYU Stern undergraduate college and I plan to concentrate in Finance and Computer/Data Science at Stern. Most of the Stern students will get a BS in Business upon graduation.
However, I am also interested in pursuing a second major at NYU CAS. I have a huge list of second majors to choose from but I am kind of leaning towards pursuing a BA in Economics. Will that be redundant to have two degrees in related fields like Business and Econ? If so, what other second majors are good for a prospective student looking to go into IB fields after graduation? Thanks!

Econ or math are both relevant and looked at favorably.
Whatever you want bro your major doesn't matter for like 99% of IB firms. The only times I've seen job postings ask for Finance/Econ majors are for restructuring positions but you're already studying finance. I would just study whatever interests you the most and won't lower your GPA.
You go to a target, to whatever interests you. You’re going to spend the rest of your life doing finance and related things. Choose a second major that interests you because you likely will not have another chance to study it in depth.
GPA > everything else - do not do CS/Stat/Math because you think it will look good and end up with a 3.0. Saw this mistake too many times and almost made it myself.
I think quirky majors/minors are very underrated - one of the more respected humanities like Philosophy or History would definitely stand out in a resume pile - especially if one of your majors were already to be quantitative.
I'd choose something that makes you an interesting person to speak with - makes you someone who knows many things. History, philosophy, sociology are all decent minors. They aren't too hard and leave you with tools to analyze most contemporary issues. I studied math and would recommend everyone stay away. Your GPA is more important than even having a minor.
