Which undergrad school fits my goals?
First post so I apologize for breaking any rules.
I am a high school junior putting the finishing touches on my resume (finishing up various positions, acquiring accolades etc), and am working with a private consultant to help smooth out the college admission and search process.
His (and my own) belief is that I will have a good shot at HYPS, Wharton etc., and a great shot at places like UChi, Northwestern, Georgetown.
Here is my goal: to break into a 100k+ salary position soon after finishing my undergrad. Beyond that, to eventually (within 5 years) be salaried at 200kpa+. Probably in a field of finance (it has been an interest for about 2 years, and I've done an internship with a small firm in my city).
Let's say I have free range, and get into the top 30 American universities.
With these goals, and the assumption that I'll be going into a financial field, how would/should I rank these universities? All things second to the compensation potential post graduation.
I think it's a bit early for you to choose between HYPSW etc considering you haven't actually gotten in yet. Amazing stats and ECs don't guarantee admissions to anywhere unless you did something extremely notable.
Also, considering your goal is simply to be in "a 100k+ salary position soon after finishing...undergrad", I'm not sure what you're actually confused about. Are you asking what college has the highest average graduate salary? Maybe consider making career decisions beyond your target salary.
I certainly can not apply to all of these places, and wont make it in to a lot of places. This process is to help me pick 4-6 universities I will apply to as "target"/"dream" schools.
I think most people here are familiar with what positions are available in financial fields. From my perspective, there are only a few variations between a couple easily defined positions. I think career success is determined in salary/compensation, hence why it is the unit for my goals.
Try College Confidential.
If you're really good, you'll find a way to success by yourself. The college you choose won't make much of a difference over the long term. If you're good enough to get into Harvard, you can probably get the same job as a Harvard grad right out of school, even if you don't attend.
So, just apply at places that are good and that you think you'll enjoy.
You have no clue.
