Why is UT Austin ranked so low by USNWR in "National Universities"?

Not hating but how is (an example) College of William and Mary or Rice University better than UT Austin? UT Austin is ranked in the 50s and Rice is in the top 20 while W&M is ranked 32. This makes no sense. I thought UT was a strong school! I'm interested in their MSF and now I'm having second thoughts!

Those rankings take the ENTIRE education portfolio into account. If you're interested in an MBA, look at the MBA rankings (where they are like #15 and Rice is ~#25ish). If you are interested in the MSF, look at those rankings.

Rice is an excellent undergraduate program and it has many of the advantages that private schools have. UT is a strong school in various programs, but if you are taking everything into account, looks like US News puts them down there.

25th in the US, 34th in World Reputation https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-uni…

Texas has a lot of stellar programs (engineering, business, journalism, etc) and a lot of liberal arts programs that are good but not amazing. Judging McCombs based off the overall rank is not the correct way to look at it. A more extreme case is that Indiana University is in the 80's but their UG business program in in the top 8.

A better reference for you would McCombs's ranking in USNWR. It's #6 for UG and #5 for finance. There are no MSF rankings yet but McCombs is easily in the top 10, probably around 5 behind MIT, Claremont McKenna, Vandy and maybe another. @TNA" can provide more insight.

TFE is a joke. Their whole site is basically spam.

UTA is one of the top MSF programs. It will place mainly in Texas, so keep that in mind, but the program is really good. I think Vanderbilt is better, but UTA is a top tier program.
