Would the University of Miami MSF Help Me Break into IB or Land a Big 4 TAS Role?

I’m trying to determine whether the University of Miami MSF would be a worthwhile investment for my goal of breaking into investment banking (IB) or at least securing a Big 4 Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) role as a stepping stone. Given my non-traditional background, I’d appreciate insights from those familiar with the program or who have made similar transitions.

Background & Career Transition Goals:

  • Graduated from the University of Miami (Econ, 2013) and completed multiple investment banking internships at boutique firms between 2013-2014 (Post-Graduation)
  • Was pushed toward medicine by my parents, leading me to enroll in a post-baccalaureate pre-med program at Columbia (2014-2017).
  • Due to financial and personal challenges, I was unable to continue on the medical path.
  • In 2021, I had kidney stone surgery (delayed due to COVID), which set back my career transition.
  • In 2022, I got a California real estate license, but quickly realized it wasn’t for me.
  • I’m now fully committed to breaking into IB and have enrolled in WSO Academy to improve my technical skills.
  • I’ve been networking, cold emailing, and applying to MBA/MSF programs, but have yet to land an IB role.

Key Questions I Have:

  • Does the University of Miami MSF place well into IB, or is it primarily geared toward corporate finance?
  • Would the Miami MSF improve my chances of landing a Big 4 TAS role (FDD/M&A) as a stepping stone to IB?
  • Are there any Miami MSF alumni who successfully transitioned into IB or TAS? If so, how difficult was it?
  • At 35, would the opportunity cost of doing an MSF be worth it, or should I focus exclusively on direct networking and TAS roles?

I’d love to hear from anyone with insights into the Miami MSF program’s placement into both IB and TAS, as well as alternative paths for someone in my position. Thanks in advance for any advice!
