WUSTL MBA, MSF or Vandy MSF

So I've been admitted to Wustl MBA and MSF and Vandy MSF programs and I wanted to get some input from the community. I don't have much experience, just summer analyst experience. My goal is to get into strategy consulting and am unsure which program would be the best option for me at the present time. Is the WUSTL MBA worth attending without much work experience? I gotta make a decision by this weekend and appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks everyone!

I'm not in the best position to answer, but you can't really go wrong with WUSTL. I'm keeping the WUSTL MSF on my radar depending on how things turn out. Sorry I am unable to offer more behind my response. Surely someone else will chime in.

If you don't mind I ask, which WUSTL MSF are you doing? Also, what are your stats and background?

When a plumber from Hoboken tells you he has a good feeling about a reverse iron condor spread on the Japanese Yen, you really have no choice. If you don’t do it to him, somebody else surely will. -Eddie B.

May I ask when you heard back from Vandy? I interviewed with them last week, and they told me that I wouldn't need a second interview and that I would get the decision before June 4th. Earlier on in the day I got an email saying that I would need to interview again and that this may take up to a month to process (which I don't have).

despite what folks here say, an MSF can come in handy at a consulting firm. especially if you are on a financial modeling team (our firm has specific groups that cater to clients, specifically banks, with modeling support and other finance needed services...none of that BO, MO crap). however, if you have the option of getting an MBA over an MSF and are dead set on consulting, id probably go with the MBA. and yes, you will have some roadblocks when it comes to recruiting because of your lack of experience....not so much full time placement, but summer associate placement. best of luck!

Yes, except for the fact that you missed the word "strategy" connected to consulting. If it was financial-based consulting, then people wouldn't be questioning the MSF.

traditional strategy consulting involves a high degree of finance related work (e.g., enterprise cost reduction, m&a, market entry strategy, etc.) it may not need as high of a degree of understanding which an MSF would provide but it would definitely not hurt. ask manbearpig. he has an MSF and last i know of was doing quite well with that at the big D

There are several people from top MSF programs going into consulting. The only reason more are not is because most MSF students want only IB.

Don't do an MBA at this point in your life. You can use a MSF degree to go into a variety of careers, just depends on your prior experience and how you sell yourself. Someone in my class year is doing consulting. Not sure what kind, but I am pretty sure it isn't financial.

Wow thanks for the responses everyone. I guess it boils down to this: Do you think the WUSTL MBA is worth it? Would it be a smarter move to go for the MSF first and try to go for a top 10 MBA later on or just go for the MBA straight away? If I did choose the MSF, would you guys recommend Owen or Olin for placement in consulting? I really appreciate your responses guys.

@Esuric: I was notified sometime in April after a campus visit. @Peinvistor: It would be a dual MBA/MSF, however I would start in the MBA program and could choose to opt out of the MSF if I choose to do so.
