Yale vs NYU Stern for MBB recruitment?

Wondering what WSO folks think about Yale vs NYU for recruitment into consulting?
Both programs place a big percentage of their classes in consulting but there's no exact figures about MBB.

I assume Yale has an advantage with its case method approach but can't validate this.

Does anybody have any insights?

The degree to which a school emphasizes the case method doesn't have an effect on consulting recruiting. Case interviews are a different animal than what you're doing in class. And NYU and Yale place about the same % of people into consulting, reputations notwithstanding.

These places both give an equal shot I'd guess, but remember that it's still a long shot. Just guesstimating, but I don't think much more than 15% of the people recruiting for consulting at these schools end up at MBB. That said, the path to a Big 4 consulting job should be much easier. Ask to talk to current students who have been through the recruiting process and see if you can get some rough numbers, given that both of these places are not forthcoming about employer data.

A word of caution on placement stats into firms. Some of the people included in these statistics previously worked at MBB firms and had offers to go back when they started. That number is of course difficult to know and fluctuates each year, but its more common at the top 10 schools than those further down the list.

My point is, don't look at a school and think "They sent 16 people to MBB!". It could be 12 of those people were previously employed and had offers to go back, and the school only helped 4 of them get there.

I'm happy to speak about my experience recruiting for consulting at Yale. MBB is definitely achievable, as are many other 2nd tier & boutique firms. I personally don't have the precise recruiting figures, but I know of plenty classmates who secured MBB internships (by design, even more get full-time offers). A lot of consulting recruiting depends on your individual performance in the interview itself. Yale will definitely open the door, but you are going to have to put in the effort to perform on the cases, etc.

Don't know much about consulting recruiting at Stern, so can't comment.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I've started getting in touch with alumni and am surprised to see how willing Yale alumni are to share their experience (NYU not so much yet).

Not really what you're looking for but I would never turn down Yale for a school like NYU
