There's been a lot of talk about mining metals from asteroids; I'm curious as to whether it's economically feasible or just a lot of hype. Would it be possible to leak an asteroid's supply of platinum onto the market over several years, for example, and capture profits without depressing price? Are there any other metals that might be less valuable, but would have a smaller impact on terrestrial supply and ultimately prove more lucrative?

Makes no sense to me. Given the astronomical (!) costs, you would need to sell a whole lot of metal to recoup your investment in a timely manner unless your discount rate is zero. Everyone would know you were massively long the stuff and needed to sell... yeah makes no sense.
I imagine it's very capital intensive and very risky. Hard pass. Based on what I've witnessed, this is usually a topic that comes out of the same mouths that frequently pontificate on essential oils and crypto.
Not sure I would put CBD oil and asteroid mining in the same basket as crypto...
As someone who knows the value of crypto and blockchain and has coded contracts for various purposes on ethereum I stand by my statement. Just because something has value doesn't mean mindless douchebags aren't obsessing over it.
Gotcha. I really don't think you can put the two in the same bag though. I'm in the physical metals space and mining crypto has gotten a lot more traction than asteroid mining for good reason even if we don't think we should be in the business of either one.
