BB: Trading Desk Rotation

Hi all,

Need to choose which desk to sit with: EM rates trading, EM flow credit or EM Distressed loan trading.

Have more of a bias towards macro - but believe the EM credit guys trade more of a Sov. split with CDS.

all depends on what you want to do and what you are naturally interested in. if you have an idea, even if it's an incredibly vague idea, of what you might like to be doing in 3-5 years your decision will have much more clarity.

if you want macro, EM rates, although if you stay in that space full time you'll quickly get pigeon holed into the EM world. most of the rates paper in the world is US treasuries, EuroZone debt, and other developed economies as you might imagine. so those G10 rates is the best place to learn macro, although EM rates isn't a bad spot to start out.

if you want to learn credit, EM distressed loan trading. since you are working in distressed you will have to develop a deep fundamental understanding of credit that you would not get in EM flow credit. fundamental knowledge of credit is one of the most diverse skill sets you can gain in this business, and will serve you very well down the road
