Can you get asked questions prior to your interview?

If i hand out my resume to some firms, is it possible that I get called and asked some technical questions or asked to pitch?

Or do they always keep the questions for the official interview?

if you get called - however informal or unofficial it might seem - it's officially an interview. be prepared to answer anything...a lot of people get dinged when they don't pass the airport test or very basic technical questions on a quick screening call. even if the person on the other end of the phone is an analyst or new associate...

Every firm is different.

Some of the application processes involves technical questions at the start. You answer them while you upload the questions with your resume, or as part of a test before you get an interview.

Others involve technical questions over the phone and others send you a pitch before you interview that they want you to prepare for the interview.

Others want you to pitch cold or answer technical questions cold in the interview.

Generally you can google what the firm will expect of you, the interview process, what the pay is like and all the questions that aren't spelt out on the website. In Australia, whirlpool.net.au tells all the secrets, and in the UK, WikiJob.co.uk are great, though I'm not sure of the US site like this.
