Chinese IB S&T in HK

Hi guys, this is a niche question. Does anyone working in HK or APAC know about the business of S&T Chinese Top IB, e.g flows, clients and products, etc? Any insight would be helpful. Thank you.

Have interned in one ("Big 4" bank - aka BOCI/ICBCI/CCBI/ABCI type) on their bond sales/trading desk and now work at a BB. Know a fair few friends who work in other bigger Chinese houses e.g. the likes of CLSA/CICC

Biz is predominantly primary market driven i.e. DCM/ECM distribution and the chinese houses see very little 2ndary flows - maybe 10-20 trades a day. Products wise mostly focuses on cash equities/bonds - some shops dabble in derivs but afaik not a profitable area in general. Clients...obvi predominantly Chinese bank desks/lifers/real money - v little coverage for global clients

Interned at the chinese bank in my soph year -  recruited for BB SA in junior year and returned as a grad.

If ur talking about experienced hires - trading is more about P&L so irrespective of shop if you've got a track record of printing consistent pnl moving to a bigger platform is easy -BB or chinese or otherwise. problem is as I mentioned above Chinese guys don't see much flow so u have to be in a prop seat (yes those still exist) to be able to properly print outsized pnl. Hve seen Chinese prop -> BB trading happen
