I'm more power than gas, but I would think 3-5 years to trader is reasonable, might be a bit faster for you if you can find ways to leverage your power experience.

If there is overlap in areas from power to where you would be scheduling and you can prove you have good knowledge, try to negotiate for a senior scheduler title to start and that could help get you to trader quicker.

When you interview, ask other schedulers/traders their path. I'd guess some at the company have been their a while a can give you a good idea since every place is different.

 

Glad you have someone to guide you but don't think less of yourself because you have 3 years out of the industry. It's not like you were fucking around doing nothing, you were probably doing something way more important than trading gas.

My guess is if you picked up RT power and scheduling quick, you will do the same for gas.
