Did everything right and still failed… is all hope lost?

So I finished my masters degree in summer 2023 and I managed to secure a 12 month internship (3 months before graduating) in equities sales and trading at a BB. The work has been alright overall and from day one I have had this stress that I need to convert this opportunity into a graduate scheme offer even though there is no official pipine compared to the summer interns (which the good ones convert to FT) As a result I have networked my hardest at the bank and have made some meaningful connections, yet because this is a position that rotates an intern every 12 months , My boss told me there is no headcount to hire for this specific desk and I should try get in the general graduate pool for sales and trading. While I tried my best to do this I was consistently told that all positions were filled up. My internship ends soon and I have managed to collect many great references from senior people but I feel like I have failed, given that even though I did good and have references there is no space to convert . Im stressed about coming into the job market with only internship experience for 12 months and I feel like employers will look down on it as it’s not full time experience. Additionally, I have been having some second thoughts on trading as I feel like it will pigeonhole me and I won’t be able to go back to my home country. I’ve recently been considering even switching to IB. What are the next steps for me? Go back to my home country and apply for jobs for September 2025? Or is there a better alternative to be taken? I just feel extremely demotivated as it seems that these opportunities are so rare and for things out of my control this one just couldn’t get converted and I don’t know if I’ll get another one. My plan is to use the free time to also study investment banking to broaden my horizons
