Dilemma: Accepted MO (Market risk) offer, but want to interview for FO FT (trading) at the same firm?
Hi, I accepted a MO offer at a BB in November since I thought I would not able to get anything better so late in the season. Although I would love to join the market risk team as it is, I still want to interview for trading at the same BB to see whether it is a possibility for me to join their team. Do you guys reckon its possible for me to do so without burning bridges/get my offer rescinded? Or should I just join the market risk team and aim to lateral internally after 6-12 months? (I heard its pretty common for my program for people to move to trading/structuring, etc after 1 year or two)
Some background info: Have had two front office internships in the markets side, and am from a weak target

To hell with that MO market risk mumbo jumbo it the same boring sh*t as BO.
How did you end up with a MO position when you had TWO front office internships on the markets side? I would try to get the interviews on the side (it's not like you are going from one firm to another for a SIMILAR function - you are going from MO to FO at different banks). That said, you should be able to land interviews. Which bank did you get the offer from?

Earlier this year I accepted a MO role at a major BB (tier 1) because I didn't have any other offers at the time. I have two front office BB internships previously and simply thought no better offer would come along plus it was getting late in the year (Nov) and I was worried.
Now I have two front office opportunities I want to pursue (I have insiders on both desks vouching for me) at the SAME FIRM that I accepted the MO offer in. The front office roles are in Trading and Structuring, and is a perfect fit for my background and previous work experience.
How am I able to interview for these other roles if I have already accepted an offer at the same firm? I know this is probably close to impossible, but how can I best achieve this/maybe bend the rules? I really do not want to work in MO and am kicking myself for locking in so early.
The dilemma is not only in reneging but hat my other opportunities are at the same firm...I don't know how to explain this to the new division I want to work for or how to explain to HR from the MO offer.

I think the fact that it's the same firm actually works in your favor. Communicate the situation to your insiders at the firm, tell them why you accepted the MO offer and how you would much rather be in the trading & structuring role. I am sure they will be able to navigate and inform you on what it is, if anything, you can do.
