Don’t like poker - which s&t desk?

A bit of ab odd question. Will be interning at BB, s&t desk.

People keep saying that trading attracts poker players. Thing is I never really got into poker (other than the odd game with friends once in a while for the occasion).

I have a strong mathematical background but don’t want to be a quant, I do like the broader trading skillset.

Are there any desks in my rotation that I should be looking for? I have been told that exotics or high yield may be more suitable personality wise.

thank you!

Based on that logic your firm would look like a casino.
While I believe that hobbies or interests based on logic or math might align with S&T staff, I don't think that everyone would have to abide by that.

Less than 10% of Americans play poker regularly (and only a small group of that really knows how to play well), less than 3% of the population play for $, and more than 70% of players are male. (the fact that you DO know how to play, have played occasionally and that you are male puts you in a relatively small group. Meaning: the vast majority of people don't know how to play, never play and wouldn't want to either)

So, if you look at it that way, your team is right. You are the right candidate.

Thank you both. To clarify, my concern isn’t that my team will pressure me into acting like a poker player / play poker.

My point is that, as I understand, if you like / are good at poker you will likely be naturally drawn to some trading products more than others (equities?). So I was asking the flipside. If I am not that into poker, are some desks more likely to be enjoyable for me?
