From fund accounting to product control

Hello everyone,

Disclaimer: i am a complete newbie as in i hardly understand half of the things that people write on wso. All those acronyms etc are still quite confusing so dont be too hard on me please.

My background: i am currently working as a fund accountant in the largest custody bank in the world. I have no financial background excpet for a certificate from the univeristy college dublin in funds and international financial services, right now i am pursuing masters degree in finance and then i want to move onto CFA.

Today i got a job offer from a BIG, zurich based investment bank. The job is in Product Control.

Ulitmately i would like to work in a fund as a research analyst/pm etc. Something FO.

The question is does taking this up role move me further to achieving my goal or is it worse or does it make absolutely no difference?

I appreciate your feedback.

Hey there, as someone who has worked in product control before, I would say do not take it if you want a position in FO. It is incredibly hard to transition since product control is usually labeled as BO unless you build solid connections to people in FO and even then it is not a guarantee. If anything, try to find something in middle office where you have a closer connection to FO work and try your luck there. good luck !
