From India to NYC

hey everybody need some help/advice i have taken a different route for my career path i am us citizen w/ indian descent graduated from bu 08 w/ 2.7 and a struggling economy my dad was working in india told me to come india worked for 4 months in standard chartered in wealth management didnt like it wanted to work inside the markets got a lucky break worked for 14 months at hdfc bank (indian bank) part of the fx trading team as a management trainee equivalent to analyst level in us...wasnt happy with salary so left margin traded fx at home made more money than they paid me but got very bored and realized it was not a career progression got offered a job at yes bank (indian bank) on fx trading team at the associate level with good base and bonus my end goal however is to work on a trading desk at one of the bb, hedge funds, mid tier banks in one of the major financial centers ie nyc or london...the depth and maturity of these markets for a trader compared to the illiquidity in india is like paradise haha planning to work for yes bank for another year, study for my gmat, try to get into columbia or nyu and then get a job in nyc can anyone comment on my plan??? or suggest another way to get into one of the bb w/out the mba route... preferably i would love to continue trading w/out going back to school but as i have no contacts in nyc or london the task seems quite difficult as all my applications go unnoticed any help/advice much appreciated happy trading booms

thats an interesting story. I'm Indian-American too btw. getting into a top mba program will be difficult though (because of the gpa and because you'll be applying from India (even though you're a us citizen). BUT after graduating from a good MBA you would probably be among the first in line for trading positions since you have past experience. Have you tried to reach out to BU alumni in NYC or London? I feel like fellow Indian alumni might be helpful esp if you advertise yourself as an expert in FX and plan to stay in that field. Or you could apply to MSc programs in London. PM me if you want. I know some Indians in NYC that trade at bbs (through friends) some of them might be in FX. I could ask him for their contact info. Your likely best shot though is going to graduate school in nyc or london.
