Goldman Sachs First Round Interview
Hey Guys,
So I just had my first round interview with Goldman last wednesday. I haven't heard back yet, but some other people got invited to the second round supposedly. Does GS send rejection letters, isn't that ettiquette or is there still a possibility that I may be considered. I am a sophomore at a non-taget and i interviewed for the GS revenue summer analyst postion for (IBD, S/T, GIR, or IM). Anyone hear back??
GS sends rejection letters via email. You are on hold or dinged. For reference, friend was dinged on Thursday following a Tuesday interview.
Does GS always send a rejection email....so if your on hold they don't tell you? And how long should I wait to see if there is a rejection email
If you do not hear back immediately, it is most likely a rejection if it is OCR. The only reason why it would take a few days for banks to get back is because they didn't interview all the candidates. As soon as every candidate is interviewed (i.e. OCR), it takes very little time for them to get back.
In my friend's case it was OCR.
Anyone heard back regarding s&t OCR on a top target (HYPSMW) last Friday?
did u get a response yet from goldman regarding your status?
i got rejected by GS BEFORE my scheduled interview with them once.
I had my first GS interview on Wednesday and did not get the superday offer (via email) till Friday evening.

I know Goldman Sachs changed to video first round interviews. Do they extend that to all applicants or do they pre-select before sending out invitations. Is it general for every role, or do they specify which role it is for? What are some of the questions? What is the process like? Do superday invitations come out after the first round video interview?
I'm fairly sure GS will pre-select after resume drop.

I've recently been selected for a first round interview at GS. It is with a campus HR recruiter and I have no idea what division it is for. I am from a non-target and believe this to be mop up recruiting (it's late as hell). Does anyone know much about this process? If I do well, what would the next step be (super day if there are any left, another interview)?
I'm very nervous as I've had generally bad luck this spring and haven't had many interviews. Am going to do a mock today with a friend and am wondering what sort of questions I should be expecting for first round? I'd really appreciate some good advice.

Sorry, man I am not knowledgeable about finance recruiting. It seems that a first step would be to reach out to the recruiter and confirm what division you will be interviewing with. That will largely determine the type of questions that you will get.

Actually, I did email back my recruiter at GS asking which group I would be interviewing for (she never told me on the phone) and she has not replied to my question. Anyways, thanks and I'll let WSO know how it goes. Regards

What is this for? Full-time analyst? Associate? Are you lateral, or coming out of school?
If you are speaking with HR, and not actual bankers, then you can expect a lot of "fit" questions and nothing technical. They will probably ask you to walk through your resume, explain your various decisions (why this school, why this job, etc.). They will ask why investment banking, why Goldman, etc.
Beyond having substantively good answers to those sorts of questions, you should also aim to come across as friendly and poised. You want HR to feel comfortable sending you to the bankers and not worry about you embarrassing them.
It is for a SA position. And thanks for the insight. I am trying to think about how to best answer those fit questions e.g. Why goldman? etc.

Wait, are you doing an interview with a person in Goldman's recruiting department, or interviewing with bankers?
At any rate, the absolute best way to answer the "why Goldman" question is to get on the phone with an alumni contact there and ask them what they like about Goldman and why they chose it over other firms. Then tailor their answer into your own.
The best way to answer the "why investment banking" question is similarly to read up on what investment banking is and how it is different from things like consulting and investing. Then, use those distinguishing characteristics to justify your interest by tying them to your background.
Its with HR campus talent acquisition? Whatever that means, I'm clueless. And thanks, I'll look into that.
Sounds like a preliminary screening interview with HR, not an actual first round interview (which will always be with bankers, not HR).

So you have a human resource internship with Goldman? I am not sure how that is an analyst position but I guess you can spin anything now days. Look on glass door for interview questions. For HR, I am sure it will be all fit / behavioral
