How to resign without pissing team off? (S&T)
Will be resigning very shortly and looking for some advice from those who have done it before in S&T. There are past threads mainly focused on IB, where turnover is quite high/common.
I'm planning to resign an an analyst, so I have no doubt in my mind that i'll ruffle some feathers. To those who have quit an S&T job, especially as a junior, what are some best practices to avoid burning the whole bridge?
Lol, you’re way overthinking this. Just quit like any other job... it ain’t rocket science. People quit all the time, you’re easily replaceable. Thanks for everything, decided to move on and I can stay around for 2 weeks to help with transition.
Happens every year.
My analyst class had 1 guy last 3 weeks, another got burned out within 6 months and straight up didnt show up anymore. Another left after his first 1 year rotation
Don't overthink it. you aren't that special and no one will miss an analyst
Nobody will give a shit that an analyst is quitting - in general analysts are cost centers, but the idea is that they may provide value down the road.
If you don't want to burn bridges just do good work up through your last day, and don't be an asshole.
Student looking to break into S&T - is the job itself the reason you wanna quit? Would you talk me out of S&T? Going into IB and I like markets okay, but I don't read 10-Ks in my free time. Just wanna do sth with predictable hours and a bit fun. Would you say S&T is either of those things?
You want a fun job with predictable hours and you chose IB? I have some bad news for you.
Corporate finance FP&A at F500.
No. I'm resigning to join another firm.
I think reading 10-ks in your free time is an analogy that's more applicable to IB than trading. Sell-side traders, for the most part, are not investors. Their job is to make markets and respond to client flow/requests. A better metric would be, do you follow the markets during your free time? Do you find WSJ interesting? Do you follow fed policy and overall macro trends? That type of thing.
You are leaving at analyst level for another firm? Bit more tricky situation I guess you have your reasons.
