How to Transition from a Sales role to more of a Trading role as a Junior

Hi guys,

Im an Analyst working in S&T for a non BB Bank. I started in their Jr. Program 1 year ago after graduating from my Bachelor and now I am into my second year. I am located in one of their satellite offices. I always wanted to become a Trader, but due to the nature of not living in a major financial hub, there were no Trader roles here but I still managed to land one of the few S&T jobs for an IB for new graduates.

I understand I will need to move to a risk-center like NY, London, HK. That is in my plan. My question is, how can I make the move from my current Sales role to a Trading Analyst role?

I am considering many options like going for my masters, or try to transfer internally, or applying other banks

Should I get a Master's in a Computational Finance/Quantitative Finance /Mathematical/Comp Sci (one of those)? > I noticed banks usually hire Trading Analyst directly from their Rotational Summer Intern pool. Going for a Masters would let me step back, reapply to their Intern programs this time in Trading.

Should I just keep working at my bank and wait for the opportunity? > Could be an option, but I would need to convince management to vouch for me.

Should I apply externally to other banks and not wait? > I seem to find it difficult to find Trading Analyst roles from all the banks, but this is possibly a good route.

Let me know I really don't know the best route, I am willing to step back, work hard, even if it will cost me a couple more years.
