Going to be hard, most of the banks hire more interns than they can take full time so rarely is there extra seats for new analysts just floating around. After working for a couple of years you should be able to move around if want to.
Don't think its all that important, nobody really believes any of those numbers anyways especially for sub VP level roles. Its more about knowing the right people and being plugged in with the right headhunters.
Not true in my experience… at least in my BB there were more seats seeking an analyst than analysts available. Obviously anecdotal but the demand is there
Interesting, have never seen that at any of the firms I have worked at. Do you think that is a sign that the business is growing or that a bunch of junior people left?
You might be able to apply for internship next year (rather than FT), and then convert. This is easier than FT recruiting (+ you have more choice over which desk you might end up with) which, as others said, will be limited as the majority of hires comes from intern class. Although these places always claim that interns must be returning to university/college, but there are always interns who have already graduated before the program starts.
Sorry, just saw this now. To be honest, I am not too sure. Could always reach out to recruiter(s) on LinkedIn or via school info session such that they can ensure your application makes it past the automated stage.

Not in S&T but assuming it’s similar to IB, then FT recruiting is all about networking

How important is it to have a pnl track record in this case? Or is it possible to move over before you have any "real" pnl/book?

Not a bad idea; would my application for these summer analyst positions just be auto-dinged due to my graduation date?
