Lawyer to trader: recruiting time line, starting position?
I'm an M&A attorney. I'm looking to become a flow trader in FX or rates, with the ultimate goal of getting on at a global macro fund (I was an econ major in college, and haven't been able to shake my passion for macroecon and markets since). So ... a few Qs:
1) If I am able to get a such a position, I would be entering as a first year analyst, right? I can't imagine my legal education and work experience being at all relevant, but I'm just looking to confirm that there isn't any leverage I can squeeze out of those things w/r/t starting a little higher up.
2) Assuming the answer to #1 is 'yes', then would my recruitment time line (be it either through networking or using my schools' career services resources) be that of a college senior--i.e. interview in the fall, start the next July or August? Or, given my non-traditional background, would I be able to get on some sort of non-traditional time line?
Any insights would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Even if you're only 25, that's not going to be an easy transition. I'd say you should take whatever you can get, especially if you're older than that... banks aren't exactly raking in the money right now.
Good luck.
you might be better off going straight to global macro they care about research ability, might be able to leverage law review etc. and a few old papers you wrote in college
