Need to Choose - Trading, Structuring, Sales, Research, Quant

Hi Guys,

I'm new to all of this. I have studied a masters in Engineering, but have had an interest in trading so have had a go at it myself for the past few years. I have managed to finally get a summer internship in S&T in an investment bank and now have to rank preferences: Trading, Structuring, Sales, Research, Quant.

I would like to pick trading and then sales, however I'm going to be completely honest and admit I dont really know what the others entail. This has probably been posted before, but can't find a post that answers this directly and concisely. Please link me to the post or share your knowledge.

Thanks.

I work on a structuring desk and I agree - not too many people understand what we do. Structuring is a very analytical role and a comfort with complex pricing systems and derivatives coming in helps a lot, but you can learn all of it on the job. I would say given your background stick to Trading or Structuring - if you are ok with the stress/pressure of trading go for it. If you like a slower, analytical and "brain-teaser" type environment, structuring is great.

Thanks a lot for the info! Is there anything you recommend I do between now and summer to get me prepared for trading/structuring I.e certain books to read, certain things to try before I start the internship to get ahead of the game?
