Networking - am i just paranoid?

Hi

So i am starting a new job as a rotational grad analyst. Today I received an email from a senior trader that he hopes to introduce me to their desk (for the first desk of the rotation). I said sure but i missed their call , so i wrote an email back and i havent received an reply. I also called them back but they didnt pick up.

How should i proceed? Should i write a followup email on monday or call directly?

Is it just because its friday after hours or is it because traders dont read emails?

Any advice is appreciated.

It’s likely just a case of bad timing. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s how you can handle this situation:

  1. Don’t Overthink It: Traders are notoriously busy, and Friday after hours is not the best time to expect a response. They might have already signed off for the weekend or are simply preoccupied.

  2. Follow Up on Monday: Send a polite follow-up email on Monday morning. Keep it short and professional. Something like:
    "Hi [Trader's Name],
I hope you had a great weekend. I just wanted to follow up regarding your call and the introduction to your desk. Please let me know a convenient time to connect. Looking forward to it!"

  3. Avoid Over-Calling: Calling back once was fine, but avoid repeated calls. It’s better to wait for their response to your follow-up email.

  4. Timing Matters: As per WSO advice, Monday mornings are a great time to send emails, as professionals are often catching up on their inboxes. Aim for around 10-11 AM.

  5. Be Patient: If they don’t respond immediately, don’t panic. Traders are busy, and it’s not uncommon for them to take a bit of time to reply. If you don’t hear back by mid-week, you can consider a second follow-up.

Remember, this isn’t a reflection on you—it’s just the nature of their work. Stay professional and patient!
