newb to finance newb to wso - help

Well I have been hanging around reading WSO for a month or two and finally decided to post something. I figure I will probably get raped on this post but #$^% it.

I'm 24 and I will be graduating from a non-target school in December of 2012. This is due to lack of funds and I had to work. I just changed my major from accounting last semester and I am now studying Bus Admin - Finance. I have a 3.9 gpa and I hold 1 of the 4 officer positions in our crap finance club. I scrambled last minute in the last week of the spring semester and found a small finance internship. As a result, I managed to snag a PWM internship with ML for this fall. I am realizing that being an FA is BS and I'm not going to get a degree so I can cold call people.

I live in the South and there very few finance jobs anywhere in the state that are worth a damn. I know that if want to do anything worthwhile I will have to move. I am one step above most of the kids in my university but I am just now starting to network.

I know I am taking a while to get to the point but I wanted to throw a little background out there first.

I am trying to read, study, and absorb as much financial info as quick as I can but I need help after that. After reading everything in this forum I figure my next move is to start applying for internships, do some mock-interviews, and network my ass off. I would love to hear some suggestions.

I know some of you guys made it from non-targets far from the street I would love to hear your experience. How did you do it? What should I do? I feel screwed and I really don't want to be a FA, or a corporate finance guy, or some basic shit analyst. Also, all the classes at my school suck and I'm wondering what else I can do to prepare myself.

Yes, I know that I am way behind the curve but I am willing to put in the work. Sorry for the sloppy writing.

Network your BALLS off and if you don't get anything, go for MSF or one of those degrees. Good job on the grades, that's going to help a lot. After the first week at the internship, start leveraging that against the next thing and push the envelope as far as possible.....there's a thread somewhere on this site about banks in the south.
