offer help please: Derivs Sales v FX Trading

offer 1) Sales position in Derviatives (on trading floor). Institutional clients (very big). Company is no1 in the dervis industry and ETF, Structured notes. Looking to expand into FX flow and improve options MM. So i guess there will be a lot of work to do, and its likely to be fun.

offer2) Corporate client (not institi)FX trading desk in number 1 firm in the country in the business. You advise clients on the markets, put on their trades, and take prop positions somtimes yourself.

About me: im a perfect Sales-Trading Hybrid. Quanty, not too quanty, and can sell, speak and express myself well. I think i could do both equally well, and both tickle me the right way.

For the second offer, is the desk both spot and derivatives or what?

Also if given the choice would you prefer derivatives or spot, and if derivatives what in (exotics/vanilla)? If you had to pick one, Sales or Trading?

I understand you might not be able to answer all of these, but it might help you figure it out.

That's what I figured... well, its a tough call then. If you are between sales and trading, it might be a better idea to go with the product you find more interesting (more structured stuff vs more vanilla).

What are the actual firms you are dealing with here? I am just wondering if you have verified their #1 claim.(PM me if you feel more comfortable). I am not aware of separate corporate only fx trading desks, but I'll take your word for it.

In general, I'd go trading. It's easier to switch from trading to sales than vice versa.

I was assuming this was SA... is it Intern or FT?

its in Canada, so its slightly different, hence explaining why you havent heard of it before... i know both the claims are true

im gonna use one as leverage for the one i want...which is the sales...

i'd go with the sales job. sounds more interesting. the derivatives will be much more fun than straight fx, and you'll actually be able to develop a niche skill set that others won't have.

btw i'm in canada too. worked in both of those areas but in mid office roles before. let me know where you end up. good luck bud.
