optiver challenge
anyone attending this next week? its basically an open house where they allow potential candidates to come in and take numerical tests. or better yet, has anyone ever gone before and could thus shed some light on the process and if its worth the flight out to chi-town ?
Do a search. The tests are pretty well discussed on this site and others. Basic math in European notation--need to do it really quickly. Other tests follow if you get the necessary mark.
I've gotten a note saying the date, and to email this HR lady, but her email bounces and her phone always goes to voicemail. REAALLYY frustrating. Any advice?
Optiver recently got a new recruiter, use the email address listed on the website.
Also, the test is not in european notation anymore.
Thanks for the comment on the recruiter, I also ran into the same problem.
Do they require you to go to their offices for the test? I'm in PA and I'm wondering if it is worth flying out.
I've been preparing for this challenge for a week, but unfortunately, I just found out that I can't make either exam this week. AKA, better luck next year for me.

Also, practice doing estimation. 80 questions in 8 minutes => 6 seconds per question. Take 3 seconds to find a small range on the answer, this should rule out a few of the multiple choice. Then, spend the rest figuring out the answer. Most people don't finish, and taking an extra second to get an answer right is probably better than guessing 50/50.
Wrong answers and blanks both count as -1, and I think a score in the high 50's will put you through.
Best of luck.
wrong answers and blanks are -2, not -1
It's actually pretty easy if you are good with numbers, all very basic arithmetics. I answered 78 and got 1 wrong according to the grader. I am through so as you can see, you dont have to finish the thing.
I am considering going to this as well, but want to know if there are any other dates to take the test later than this week, ie november. Anyone asking the hr lady if there are other dates?
Yes, I did. She never responded after I asked if there were testing dates past Friday. So, if Optiver is your top top top choice, and you're $400 confident that you'll pass the exam, pick up a plane ticket and go.
Also, I didn't realize blanks and wrong answers were so heavily penalized. Damn. And 78 right is the highest score I've heard of so far, so congrats on that Caliboy
.
Where / When is this test? Where did you find information on it?
Did anyone else pass this test on the 22nd? I'm still waiting to hear back from them wrt the next step in the process after having passed the 80 question test.
Do you know if only locals were there to take the test on 22nd ? Was anyone out of state invited there ?
