Optiver Trader Concerning Turnover

Hi all,

Have heard that Optiver generally has alarmingly high turnover in the early stages, to the point of 40% of their traders being gone in the first 12 months. Anyone know if there is any merit to this claim (particularly for the EU offices if possible) as this seems extremely high? Also, how well are you likely to be able to move to another prop shop in the case that you are dropped?

Many thanks

I have seen many many traders that did not make it at their first firm (Optiver, but also lower tier firms) and let go within 1-2 years find trading roles are slightly lower tier firms right after. Especially if they make it closer to at least 1 year. And obviously going from Optiver to somewhere smaller is easier than the other way around.

This is consistent with what I've heard. They always seem to be hiring and don't really seem to care about churning through candidates, I guess because there's a never ending supply of graduates/candidates that are keen to become traders. With this said, I would think churn for technology/infrastructure roles would be lower given that candidates are harder to source.
