Path to trader (commodities - energy)?

Simple question, but probably more challenging to answer. What is the path to being a trader at a supermajor / reputable bank or shop (traf, maq, vitol etc.)? I have heard a lot of it is being in the right place at the right time, and trader training programs obviously help. Specifically relating to my situation, I am a market analysis intern for crude at a supermajor (I'm a sophomore). What would be my best bet to become an energy trader (hopefully nat gas or power)?

I am really only familiar with BPs program…and as far as gas trading, I think they are the only ones that seem to put on risk that can/will pay. They will hire analysts and rotate them through different parts of the business (trading, origination, etc). You will take a test that qualifies you as a trader and then you get placed on a desk. I’d say theirs is the only desk where you will see traders recruited away to some of the trading shops.
