Physical commodities: about ~ 5 years in, and not sure where to take my career next.

A small physical commodities shop. It's largely relationship based...that's how we generate PnL. I'm going to keep some details vague, because some of it is fairly specific.

I have been here nearly ~ 5 years, and started very shortly after college. So I'm still pretty young in the grand scheme of things.

I have jumped through a few different desks here, and now have a senior logistics role. Imagine something like "terminals blending manager." This promotion was fairly recent, and on paper, it's a really good move for my age. Most people that have my job title at competitors have been working 10+ years.

My eventual goal is to get into a real commercial role. I believe I'd be happy doing "marketing" at a decent producer or midstream company, I don't have to be doing spec trading. I know that commercial roles aren't the be-all and end-all, but I have a lot of frustrations with my current situation, and want a role where I'll learn more.

In terms of my current gig:

The pros are that my compensation is very good (all in, $170K), and in line with a senior position. Company has always taken care of me. I don't work long hours in the office (40 hours/wk). I'm getting a lot of good experience, and good connections. My company is a more pure trade shop. I'm one of the more established people here now, and I've always been known as a top performer.

The bad parts...it's been an extremely disorganized place as of late. I'm still having to do a lot of basic scheduling stuff, even though it's no longer part of my job. Basically on call all the time, even on vacation. Not a well-run company these days, shit is constantly going sideways, and it's stressful to deal with. No real professional development, I haven't learned much in a couple years. I don't think I'll be a trader here - They will always hire external for those roles, and honestly, my company isn't the place to learn anyways.

I've been pretty unhappy at work for a while. My work ethic has gone down a bit, but I'm still performing alright. I just no longer believe that working hard here will get me towards my career goals. It will just allow me to continue my current situation of getting paid really well, and being a logistics guy. My job still feels very similar to the role I started with.

The main problem is that I likely can't get a senior role somewhere else.

Should I hold out for something equal or better? Or consider a backwards move in title/pay to get in a better company?
