Pigeonholing myself?
Hi Monkeys,
Posting to hear your thoughts on my situation. I'm a final year undergrad from Europe (non-UK) at a non-target, currently doing DCM at a bank that in Europe specifically is very strong across Corp, FIG and SSA issues.
Don't get me wrong, certainly a lucrative spot to be in, but this wasn't precisely what I wanted. I actually wanted to
1) Try either S&T or AM before "settling" for a career
2) Try working in London.
Relative to my peers, I have strong quant and coding skills - but realistically, my competition will be even stronger. My grades are decent, and I'm just not sure what would qualify me for S&T/AM at this point. I feel like my profile/CV neatly sets me up to be a career banker, when in reality I really would love to get to prove myself on the trading floor.
I also get the impression that my bank wants to keep me "here" and not send me to London due to the fact that I speak multiple relevant languages in the area.
I'm very grateful for the way my career turned out so far but I think I will regret not sticking to the plan. So, how would you go about transitioning into S&T/AM from here?
Could a target master's program in the UK help? Networking?
Appreciate all thoughts!
