Renege on SA offer?

Hi I’m applying for SA positions in S&T and have accepted an offer at a good firm (CS/Citi/BoA/RBC/UBS), but am in the interview process at a top firm (GS/JPM/MS). My question is what are peoples opinions on reneging a good firm for a top one? The reason I want to renege is asset strength specific. One is stronger in the asset class I want. What do u guys think?

Comes down to:

  1. How was the offer sourced? Was it a cold app, light networking, heavy pushing?
  1. Sure it may be a better asset class, but let’s be real- are you prestige chasing here? You’ll probably find the same or similar opportunity at your current shop.
  1. What’s the real upside in reneging? I can see an argument for reneging a S&T for IB, but this would be questionable IMO.
  1. Go through with the SA- if you truly have a bad experience simply recruit again for next yr or ft.

Would you say that if you networked hard and heavily pushed with recruiters and were very well-connected with them, it would be foolish to renege? I'm in a similar boat.
