Sales and Trading outside of New York

I was wondering if anyone knew what sales and trading opportunities existed outside of New York. I know that SunTrust has Atlanta and Robert Baird has Milwaukee but are there any other investment banks that have trading offices outside of New York.

Actually, I think Wells Fargo has some trading in San Fran. They don't really have an NYC office, they do some work in the capital markets, process of elimination makes that San Fran. Also don't forget William Blair in Chicago.

Northern Trust probably does some S&T in the currency markets and money market as well out of Chicago. I'm a New York equities guy at an investment bank, so I'm really out of my league when talking about a Chicago custody/trust bank's businesses, but Northern Trust and Wells Fargo would be two places to look. I think BMO Harris Nesbitt also has significant operations in Chicago, but they are a Canadian firm.

If I may ask, why the focus on banks? There's a lot of proprietary market-makers in Chicago and a number of hedge funds sprinkled all over the states. You don't have to work for a bank to work in trading.

Well I'm going into my senior year and I've always been under the assumption that most prop trading shops and hedge funds look for traders with previous experience.

Dallas and Houston have some good firms for Sales & Trading. Plus they have the best economies going on right now in the US

I do agree that Chicago is really dominating in business perspectives relevant in sales, trading. It depends upon where you have the importance of your brand/stock.

In all seriousness, research the market you want to be in. Different markets have different trading hubs. Chicago has the CBOE, NY has the NYSE, Houston has energy. Each of these areas have trading firms that specialize in those areas.
