Starting out in Merchandising to Trading Desk.
Hello all,
Currently recruiting for commodities, and looks like if things break my way I'll be starting out in a Ag merchandising seat at a Non-ABCD house(Scoular, The Andersons, DeLong). I'm also recruiting for merchandising/trading roles at some of the Resin houses like Tricon, Dow Chemicals, LyondellBasell. Also applied to the ABCD houses and some of the majors like Sunoco, Marathon, Chevron for supply and trading, but don't really have high hopes for those.
Assuming I have to cut my teeth out in the Midwest or Houston for two or three years, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how difficult the switch is from merchandising to physical trading in terms of recruitment and your experience of trying to lateral. I'm really open to trading to any commodity, frankly, because beggars can't be choosers in this job market, and at some point in time whatever commodity I'm in will take a shit and I will most likely be fired.
Thanks.
