Struggling to break in

I’m a second year student at a top 10-15 (depends on which ranking) UK uni, however through lack of foresight I ended up studying a possibly less ideal subject for finance careers (I chose Politics, Philosophy and Economics).

I’m wondering what are the main skills I need to develop to maximise my chances of a grad role at a bank/asset manager/fund? And how best do i go about developing these?

I had no luck securing a summer internship in trading, however I am currently undertaking a placement year as a market analyst for a major shipping company.

Im interested in sales, trading and interdealer broking, especially fixed income and repo, as well as commodities (physical and paper).
